Creating a capsule wardrobe from scratch

Imagine if (for some bizarre reason), you needed to start from scratch with your wardrobe, even though you still had the same lifestyle. Would that thought fill you with dread or feel like a welcome opportunity?

I think we all sometimes feel like we need to throw it all away and start again. But it’s very probable that there are some items that you wear over and again and would genuinely be sad about having to part with (like when they get very scruffy, it’s hard to say goodbye). That’s usually a good thing to have a think about - what would you really miss? Occasionally, some of my clients wouldn’t miss anything but usually there are a few loved pieces - and sometimes everything is perceived to be loved but isn’t getting worn.

And what about the actual researching and buying of items to make up your new capsule wardrobe? Would you even know where to start? Would you feel completely overwhelmed or would it be a fun challenge?

Obviously I would find this an incredibly fun challenge - to bring together a capsule wardrobe that works for your style personality, your colours, lifestyle and silhouettes you love wearing. I’ve had a little think about what I’d do for myself and you can find all the links to my capsule wardrobe (February 2022 edition) on this link.

It contains 18 items and cost £1,553 and I could wear a different outfit everyday for at least a month. I could also reduce that cost, but I’ve included a few luxe pieces that I know I’d enjoy wearing on repeat. And perhaps not everything I’ve selected would work perfectly, but I know broadly speaking what I’d be looking for yet I’d also be able to be flexible enough to change an item completely. If it’s in my palette (with some mild deviations that still work), then it’ll work in the capsule.

So here she is… my capsule wardrobe (February 2022 edition). I have included some pieces I already own as I wear them on repeat. And inevitably, I am now lusting after some of these pieces. The curse of being a personal stylist!

And here are just some of the outfits I’d go about creating.

I’d love to know how you’d feel about starting from scratch! I’m certainly not suggesting that you should - the best place to shop first is always your wardrobe. But it can also be worth thinking about your own wardrobe in terms of a capsule wardrobe.

If you’d like to work with me to find your unique style personality, colours, create a capsule wardrobe out of clothes you already own - or even start from scratch, then get in touch.
